Heinz source…

LPR, the pallet pool company, has signed a new contract with food manufacturer, Heinz. LPR will supply pallets into the company’s factory in Elst in the Netherlands for distribution into the UK, Irish and Dutch markets. The deal is expected to involve over 300,000 pallet movements.

The Elst facility, situated near Arnhem, is the centre of excellence for the production of Heinz sauces including the iconic Heinz Tomato Ketchup and HP sauce ranges. LPR supplies quality assured pallets to the Elst factory. Finished goods are auto-palletised prior to despatch to Heinz’s automated UK national distribution centre in Wigan and then for onward distribution throughout the UK and Ireland. In the Netherlands, pallets are distributed through the TDG-operated warehouse in Nijmegen.

Andy Wooffindin, UK and Ireland pallet manager for Heinz, said: ‘The ability to dual source our pallet supply will allow us greater operational flexibility in the future. Pallet quality is of paramount importance to us, due to the automated nature of our supply chain and the quality of LPR’s pallets is well recognised within the industry.’

LPR has revolutionised the UK pallet pooling market-place since its entry in 2004, with the introduction of the one way trip and a ‘trip fee’ pricing structure.
