TDG is to provide transport to around 200 Oddbins and Nicolas retail outlets in the UK. The three year contract, worth around €6.3 million, will see transport activities move to being centred on TDG’s site in West Hallam, Derbyshire.
‘We recognised the need for a national approach to transport, and felt that TDG’s flexibility and strong management team would best meet our requirements,’ commented Bob Smyllie operations director for Oddbins.
TDG will also be collecting cardboard waste from stores and returning it to the West Hallam depot for recycling. This process was previously outsourced. ‘We are continually looking for ways to make the supply chain more efficient for customers,’ says TDG’s retail business director, Barrie Brackstone. ‘By picking up the waste, we estimate that we are not only bringing 400 tonnes cardboard each year to reprocess, but also taking around 225,000 running miles off the roads.’
The contract is due to start in mid April, and will utilise 12, 18-tonne rigid vehicles to make deliveries to around 200 branches across the UK.
