Damco, the logistics business of AP Moller-Maersk, is to roll out the Kewill forwarding system to some 3,000 users in 100 countries over the next two years.
The move follows the completion of the first phase of implementation in which the system was deployed to manage air and ocean shipments, including multimodal, between Asia and Europe, providing the required localised documentation at each port.
Damco’s chief operating officer, Peter Kjaer Jensen said: “Damco chose to work with Kewill as its forwarding platform following an extensive review and testing of the various options in the market. The Kewill platform was evaluated to be the most suitable for a global forwarding business. In addition, the Kewill organisation was assessed to be the most responsive in understanding Damco’s business model.”
Damco had sales last year of over $2bn managing more than 2.3 million TEU of ocean freight and supply chain management volumes and air freighted more than 60,000 tonnes. It has 10,500 employees in over 280 owned offices across 90 countries.
