Scots invest £300,000 in food supply chain

The Scottish government is funding supply chain work to connect food processors and manufacturers with retailers, public and private catering establishments.

It is to spend £300,000 on the programme which will also include marketing and support for the food industry events in Scotland.

The initiative will be led by Scotland Food & Drink and the aim is that the industry will generate £12.5 billion in sales by 2017 – a £2.5 bn increase on its previous target.

Scottish rural affairs secretary Richard Lochhead said: “Delivering the next wave of success can only be met through a joint response from all those growing, making, buying and selling Scottish food and drink at home and abroad.”
