John Allan joins Royal Mail board

John Allan, former CFO of Deutsche Post DHL, has become a non-executive director of Royal Mail Group.

Allan is currently chairman of Dixons Retail, Care UK and WorldPay. As chief executive of Exel plc he built the business into the world’s largest third party logistics provider, becoming a director of Deutsche Post after it bought Exel in 2005.

He said: “Royal Mail plays a vital role connecting companies, customers and communities across the UK. The company has made great progress in recent years and I am pleased to be to be joining Royal Mail at such an important time in its development.”

Donald Brydon, chairman of Royal Mail Group said: “He brings a wealth of strategic, financial and marketing experience, including an in-depth knowledge of the postal sector. John’s experience will be particularly valuable as we progress the ongoing transformation of Royal Mail and work closely with the Government to obtain external capital.”
