P&O Cruises and Cunard has chosen Optimiza Demand Planner from Barloworld Supply Chain Software top handle demand forecasting for its fleet of cruise ships which include the Oriana and Queen Mary 2.
Each ship is a floating town separated from its suppliers for lengthy periods.
As patterns and behaviours must first be established before predictions can be made, no cruise line has ever been able to implement forecasting software to support preparations before embarkation as itineraries differ considerably in terms of destination, course, consumption, and time at sea.
There are also seasonal fluctuations with availability of fresh produce and passenger numbers. Historically this immense, diverse task has required near-heroic skill and dexterity on the part of those charged with its execution.
Optimiza Demand Planner provides planners with a prediction of future sales and consumption that supports rapid and effective decision making.
It uses multi-level forecasting techniques that intelligently select the right algorithms for each product level and collects results up or down the product, geographical, or channel hierarchy. Optimiza will integrate seamlessly with ship-based MXP software, which provides powerful tools to manage cruise ship operations.
Phase one of installation is underway and full implementation is expected by the end of July 2013.
