The Cool Chain Association (CCA) has called for “closer collaboration” between shippers to tackle global food wastage in the cool chain.
At a recent perishables summit, delegates agreed to work with shippers and other supply chain stakeholders to shrink food wastage in the cool chain by at least 10 per cent by 2025. This is equivalent to 250,000 tons of savings, $1 billion in monetary savings, and a reduction of one million tons of emissions.
“Food wastage is a major issue and one which we must focus on as an industry,” said Sebastiaan Scholte, CCA chairman and CEO Jan de Rijk Logistics. “Working together, we can find ways to fight back and make a difference, while at the same time adding value to the supply chain.”
