Hermes subsidiary becomes Alibaba logistics partner

BorderGuru, a subsidiary of the Hermes Group, has become the official contractual partner of Alibaba, the giant Chinese online retail group.

alibabaAlibaba’s gross merchandise value is some US $452 billion and it has access to more than 280 million customers.

Alibaba’s TMall Global shopping platform offers Chinese customers popular international brands. Some 5,400 international brands from a total of 53 countries are being offered on TMall Global.

BorderGuru is working on behalf of Cainiao, Alibaba’s logistics provider, to manage the logistics cross-border shipping process for European clients looking to sell in the Chinese market.

James Zhao, director of global import at Cainiao said: “We are delighted to have secured the services of the experienced logistics specialist Hermes with its proven track record in retailing. In conjunction with its strong e-commerce base, BorderGuru for us is a logical partner we can trust with our continued expansion in Europe.”

Martin Kreiter, responsible for e-commerce business development at Hermes and managing director of BorderGuru, said: “We are really proud to have become Alibaba’s contractual partner – the number one in China’s and consequently in global web sales. And we truly appreciate the trust placed in us.

“Items imported from Germany include particularly pharmaceutical products, nutritional supplements, baby products and foods, as well as organically produced children’s clothing and luxury items. “The label ‘Made in Germany’ is still a real sign of quality for many international customers,” said Kreiter.

Cainiao Network, the logistics affiliate of Alibaba, was formerly known as China Smart Logistics. It operates a logistics information platform which provides real-time access to information for both buyers and sellers, as well as information that allows delivery service providers to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their services.
